Biggest Hoaxes Of The Fitness Industry: Debunking The Truth!
Being a trainer in the fitness industry for almost eleven years now, I have came across a number of myths that people can’t seem to get past. Here are my top 5 I deal with on almost a daily basis.
1. Lifting weights makes you bulky
This has to be number one. Lifting weights for your goals will absolutely not get you bulky. In fact, it’s one of the best ways to lose weight. By building muscle, it naturally increases your metabolism, so in turn burning more calories throughout the day. Resistance training is by far one of the best ways to achieve a lean, strong body.
2. Cardio is the only way to lose weight
Just like number one there are multiple ways to lose weight as well as to build muscle. People think cardio is the only way to achieve weight loss. They’re absolutely wrong, in my experience resistance training is by far the best way. Your body over time adapts to cardio very quickly compared to resistance training which slows down the weight loss process. Pick up some stuff!

Try for FREE3. You need to be fit before joining a gym
This one has always confused me. The gym can definitely be intimidating for the first time and I think a lot of people can’t get past that. This is when I recommend hiring a trainer right off the bat even for just one or two sessions. Then you can see that 90% of the people in the gym are just like you.
4. If you’re not sore and tired it wasn’t a good workout
Too many people fall into this trap thinking every workout has to be hard and if you’re not sweating, it wasn’t a good workout. When this comes up in conversation I always ask “Is your goal to be sore and tired or is your goal to be fit, healthy, more energy, and better overall?”. Beating up your body isn’t the way to achieve your goals.
5. You can’t have a good workout with online training
False. In this day and age with technology and the Internet you can find any kind of workout program and advice out there. I partnered with Fitbudd in a way to reach more people and share my love for fitness. It’s a great alternative if you don’t have access to a trainer in person.
That’s it. Those are my top myths. So if you’re struggling losing weight, building muscle, or just wanting to get in shape, remember it’s about just starting. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself and you’ll be in the best shape in no time.
